We came to Village
Northwest because it's not an institution; it's about the individual.
Everything is done in the best interest of the resident, and we knew
Marcia would
come first. That makes it easier to enroll your child,
knowing that the staff cares and
will bend over backwards to help her.
The Village seeks to provide everything so
Marcia can reach her highest
potential, whatever that may be. That's what's so important,
and that's
why the Village is such a blessing.

What makes our employees excellent is the day-to-day connections we
have with
individuals where we're helping them with their basic
needs, like knowing how
they like to be woken up in the morning
The Village is well beyond a job; we're a family.

When Jennifer was 16 and her sisters left for college, she asked us,
'Where am I going
to school?' On her 18th birthday, she moved to the
Village. There Jennifer felt security
and, most importantly,
accomplishment. Now she resides in a community home where
she prepares meals ,helps with cleaning, shops for
her personal needs and works
30 hours a week. She is a productive
and quality citizen of this country. Only through the
efforts and
diligence of VNU could this have been accomplished.

VNU resident
I'm honored to assist our residents in enjoying a quality of life that
brings them dignity
and purpose while doing my best to see that a
person is doing what they enjoy or
accomplishing what they want. Seeing
the challenges the residents face day-to-day has
helped me to live my
own life with more enthusiasm and appreciation. I especially admire
their courage and the strength they display. Most have an incredibly
positive attitude and
always try their best. It truly amazes me!

I have always thought that the individuals in my care have taught me
more about life than
I could ever teach them. They accept everyone that
they interact with as a friend and have
an unconditional gratitude for
everything you do for them. In my 23 years at the Village, I've
gained
support, encouragement and love. The Village is my second family; it's
not just a job
for me, but a way of life.

Direct Support Professional
At VNU, not only do we have the love and friendship of each individual, but also of their
families. It's such a benefit to know that so many people believe in you and trust you
to take care of their child. And so rewarding when you see their children's dreams come
true. Individuals who once were so dependent on staff now make their own meals and have
jobs they are proud of. With VNU, all this is possible and more.

Direct Support Professional and Iowa
Association of Community Providers 2007
Direct Support Professional of the Year
The day Cody moved to VNU was the single most important event in our
lives.
Cody felt right at home when he arrived, and now he has
developed in almost all
aspects of his life. What the Village
provides for him is the essence of his life, and
knowing that he
is living in an environment that nurtures him and provides such
exceptional care is everything we could possibly hope for.
- Jay and Melissa Decker,
parents of Cody,
VNU resident
After considering other options, we realized that VNU was by far the best choice to
meet Scott's special needs. The employees are his family, role models and closest
friends, and because of their commitment we've seen Scott's consistent growth
in maturity, independence and relationships with others. We cannot imagine a better
living situation for our son. We will always be grateful to the Village for providing the feelings
of relief, satisfaction and joy that come when you see that your child is thriving.
