Village Northwest Unlimited
is located in Sheldon, Iowa, 60 miles north of Sioux City, Iowa and 60
miles east of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Sheldon is a town of 5,000
people.
The Village was founded in 1975 and opened its doors for the first time
on July 4, 1976. Currently, 200 individuals with disabilities receive a
wide array of services and training from the Village. These 200
individuals have varying types and degrees of disabilities including
intellectual disabilities, brain injury, cerebral palsy, autism,
Down’s syndrome, epilepsy, and others. VNU currently serves
individuals who range in age from 17 years to 80 years of age, who come
from over 30 different counties in Iowa and from six other states.
The Village is a private, nonprofit, nondenominational organization
governed by a board of directors who represent a number of northwest
Iowa communities. The mission of VNU is “To provide
Purpose, Privacy and Dignity for all People.”
